A Spring To-Do- List

Get organized with these tips for your spring to-do list. Get your yard ready for family outdoor fun and those special occasions.

Spring is here and it is time to get outside, enjoy the warm weather, and start those outdoor projects on your spring to-do list. Spring holds so many great opportunities for us to enjoy our yards. Getting organized and completing our spring to-do list early can free up our weekends for spending family time in our yards. And for those of us who may have plans for celebrating a special occasion this spring in our yards, having our spring to-do list checked off will give us more time to focus on the fun planning details.

Spring To-Do List:

• Visit your garden store and stock up on things such as garden gloves, garden hand tools and a kneeling pad.

• Rake lawn and planting beds to remove twigs and fallen braches and left over leaves from last fall.

• Get out from storage all of your spring / summer yard items such as your bird bath, obelisk, porch and patio furniture.

• Edge and mulch beds.

• Check to see if your community has a household hazardous waste drop-off. Find out what they will accept and start collecting by going through your house and garage.

• Have a yard sale.

• Plant flower seeds you collected last fall from your favorite annuals. Start your seeds indoors using a seed starter kit. A great way to get the kids involved. Replant outside after the last frost.

• Have the trees in your yard checked by a certified arborist or tree specialist for dead or cracked tree limbs caused by winter weather; for the health of the tree and the safety of your family.

• For flowering shrubs check to see when the right time to prune them is.

• Clean outdoor light fixtures.

• Clean windows, storm doors on the house and garage.

• Clean the siding, shutter, and gutters.

• Clean the porch and the deck.

• Clean out all window wells and make sure the gravel is properly draining.

• Have your car tuned-up and checked for repairs before any spring trips.

• Make a car emergency kit for all your spring trips.

• Check to see if all family bikes are in go working order.

• Get all outdoor games out of storage.

• Clean up outdoor play structures and swings (and have the kids help).

• Have fun and enjoy the beautiful flowers and warm weather coming your way.

• Plant annuals in planting beds, planter boxes, window boxes, and clay pots. Be sure to wait till after your frost date.

• De-thatch and aerate your lawn.

• Tune up lawn mower and all other yard equipment.

• Start planning a vegetable garden. Get the kids involved in picking out the vegetables to grow.
