It’s amazing what a simple thing like edging can do for the appearance of your lawn. It had been a while since any edging had been done to our mom’s lawn, and it was in desperate need of edging to give it those crisp clean lines you see on manicured lawns.
The string line of the lawn trimmer wasn’t a match for the thick matrix of grass that had formed, so we used a power edger. If you make a habit of edging after each time you mow the lawn, a string line lawn trimmer should keep the edges looking crisp. If you edge infrequently, a power edger is the tool to use when the turf gets too mat-like.
A power edger, whether electric or gas-powered, is really a handy lawn tool and can be a time-saver over using a manual long-handle edger. Be sure you wear protective glasses when operating a power edger because debris can fly out from the rotating blade.
As you can see in the photos, not only did the edges of the lawn look scraggly, but over time the overgrown edges began to encroach on the walks, making them look narrow and less roomy than they actually are.
There were 3 areas of the front yard that needed help – the entry walk, the driveway, and the sidewalk along the curb.
After a few hours work, and a bit of clean up, the walks and the driveway had curb appeal again. It really made a big improvement in the overall appearance of the front yard.
Edging does make everything look so much neater.
