Over the 4th of July weekend, there was a big family cookout at my house. The menu included grilling chicken, and it was the perfect opportunity to create a dry rub recipe for the chicken.
So in my ‘test kitchen’, we put our heads together to create a tasty and savory dry rub recipe for grilling chicken that would appeal to everyone at the cookout. And this savory dry rub was oh so tasty, so we wanted to share the recipe with you.
What makes food so delicious is the layering of flavors, including those unbelievable combinations of herbs, spices, and seasonings.
This combination of herbs and seasonings makes a delicious dry rub – and some tasty grilled chicken!
Making the dry rub for a grilling recipe could not be easier, and you can make it ahead of time. Store the dry rub in an air-tight container in a cool place.
Savory Dry Rub
(Makes approx. 1/3 cup)
4 t chili powder
2 t cumin
2 t onion powder
1 t lemon pepper
1 t rosemary
1 t thyme
4 t garlic powder
Measure the dry ingredients, and blend in a bowl with a spoon.
Store the mixture in an air-tight container in a cool place.
That’s it!
If you love savory flavors, it’s a good bet you will love this dry rub. Let us know if you try it.
Note: We tripled the recipe for the chicken that was grilled at the cookout, and that was more than enough for 18 chicken breasts.
Hope you enjoy! ~M
