I love the fact that this showy perennial is another plant that has a long blooming season. ‘Karalee Petite Pink’ Gaura starts to flower in late spring, and continues displaying its pretty flowers into the fall.
Tiny coral pink (about 1”), 4-petal flowers form at the end of each thin stem, which many growers described as wand-like panicles, and hover over its medium green foliage, some leaves may have a bit of red.
This is a smaller Gaura growing between 10” to 14” in height, and 2’ to 3’ mature width. It has a graceful, wispy appearance, and loves full sun.
Doesn’t it look attractive in this planter?
Not only is it a member of the long blooming perennials, it is very drought tolerant once established, and that’s a plus during the drier summer months. It adapts to a range of well-drained soil types.
The botanical name for this perennial is Gaura lindheimeri ‘Karalee Petite Pink’. It is hardy in zones 5 – 9 (another source said 5 – 10, and another said 5 – 11).
I wish I had a few of these in my yard! It attracts butterflies and that’s always a good thing. I love seeing them flutter about in the yard on a summer day.
Don’t forget to keep up with ‘A Perennial a Week’ series. Even though it’s fall, and winter is coming, discovering (and bookmarking) a new perennial each week for next year’s garden is easy!
