Fall Porchscape

We decided that the Fall season would be perfect for our very first porchscape. We had so much fun with it that we can’t wait to do our next one and share it with you!

One of us here at better Outdoor Living at home, has a nice size front porch (not that you have to have a porch at all to decorate for the seasons), and it made a great setting for a fall porchscape.

As you can see, we used traditional fall decor, coupled with a few outdoor classics like a teak bench, faux wrought iron planter stand, and a small metal table with a patina finish. There is a lantern on the table that now holds a pumpkin spice candle for evening time ambience, giving off just the right amount of light for enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee or tea on the porch.

All of the summer decor and pots of summer annuals were removed so that we could start with a clean slate, so to speak. At this point, the porch was looking a bit bland, but not for long.

All the summer decor was removed, and we began with a clean slate, so to speak

We placed oversized pots of mums in decorative baskets, and potted one in a large weathered clay pot near the front door for an entry feature.

It looks great right next to the classically beautiful welcome doormat. The colors and design of the doormat are simply gorgeous for this subtly elegant porchscape. And we loved its message –‘HOME’!

Even the living room windows were tied into the porchscape, each with their own brightly colored wreath of autumn leaves hung by apple green grosgrain ribbon.

The tall planter stand holds a decorative rectangular clay planter filled with a pale yellow/coral (later it turns a lavender shade) colored mum, called ‘Empire Emma’.

For over the front door, we found a beautiful swag at a local garden store. It is richly colored in deep fall hues of scarlet reds and burnt oranges. We loved all the different colors and sizes of the berries used in the detailing of the swag. Isn’t it great when something has such wonderful detailing that each time you look at it you find something new about it?

Harvest Wreath and Candle

On the table in the corner of the porch, we designed an arrangement surrounding the lantern, using a bounty of different types of colorful gourds, mini pumpkins, autumn corn, and acorns gathered from the yard – all setting on a bed of dried ear leaves from the corn stalks.

Isn’t candlelight in the evening just beautiful?

And what would an autumn decor be without the traditional elements from a fall harvest, like dried corn stalks and big burnt orange-colored pumpkins – all arranged with the baskets of oversized mums to guide family and neighbors to the heart of the porch.
