Springtime’s Flowering Vignettes

After the long winter, it is so wonderful to see the spring flowers in bloom. Spring bulbs, flowering trees and shrubs, and early spring perennials paint a picture that one never grows tired of seeing each year. It’s a sight to behold!

Large and small flowering vignettes pop up here and there in most every yard this time of year. Taking time out from a busy day for a stroll around the yard, taking in all the beauty, is a great way to relax.

If you were to stroll around our yards, these are some of the things you would see blooming this spring.

Some of the beautiful flowers in Kathy’s yard this spring –

I planted this Dogwood tree about 10 years ago and I love it. Every spring the flowers never fail to amaze me. They start out a greenish yellow and they seem to overnight they turn a pure white. The flowers just seem to float in the air.

This is a lilac shrub that was already here when I bought my house. The flowers start to bud in late April and by the first or second week in May it is in full bloom. I have actually in years past gone out in my backyard just to smell the flowers. And if the flowers are still looking good by Mother’s Day, I have made arrangements for my Mom.

This is a lavender Phlox. I only have a small little batch of it in my front planting bed but I hope to add to it this year. I have seen large mass plantings of it in my neighbors yards and it is beautiful.

I think these are one the prettiest pink tulips I have ever seen. I have them in various places in my yard. One place is right of the front porch. A friend of my who lives across the street told me one spring that she loves looking out her front window and seeing them. That made me feel great and that was the first time I realized that not only that I was enjoying my flowers but other people were too.

Some of the beautiful blooms in Mary’s yard –

I planted these beautiful tulips and daffodils in various spots in my yard, may be 12 years ago. The tulips are a shade somewhere between Benjamin Moore’s ‘Twilight Magenta’ and “Crushed Berries’. I’m always happy to see them every spring alongside the daffodils.

This is the groundcover I have in many parts of the yard. It’s common name is myrtle, and it’s botanical name is ‘Vinca minor’. It is one of my favorite groundcovers for a few reasons – it has shiny leaves, it’s evergreen, it’s non-invasive (meaning less work), and it has this adorable periwinkle flower which it produces a few times during the growing season.

There are tufts of grape hyacinth in the lawn, which are very pretty, but I don’t know where they came from! But, I love seeing them in spring, and the tufts are perfect for hiding treats for our family’s annual Easter egg hunt.

The delicate white flowers of the serviceberries tell the world it is spring!

This is a dwarf Korean lilac. I just have one, but I’d like to get more for a hedge for a certain part of the yard. It is just about ready to bloom – I can smell the wonderful scent of its flowers just thinking about it!

I’ve had hosta in my yard for many years, but this is the first year I took a closer look as they emerge from the ground. The leaves are like tight little spirals that, within a few days, slowly swirl open. Amazing.

Those pale pink tulips are so pretty!
I don’t think I have ever seen them in that shade.

Since I do not have tulips in my yard there is not a lot blooming here just yet!
Thanks for sharing these pretty shots!

Wow, those pink tulips are amazing. Do you know the name of them? Thanks for sharing the beauty.

    • Hi Sarah,

I bought the pink tulip bulbs about 10 years ago and I just don’t remember the name of them. Thank you for enjoying the photo of them!
